How FFL Transfers Work in Florida: Buying a Gun Online in Tallahassee

By Armor Firearms & Training (FFL: DB Training), Tallahassee, FL

Found a great deal on a gun online? Online gun sellers ship to a licensed dealer, called an FFL, not to your front door. The dealer receives the gun, runs your background check and hands it over. That's an FFL transfer. Here's how it works with us in Tallahassee, and what it costs.

What is an FFL?

An FFL is a business that holds a Federal Firearms License from the ATF. Our FFL is listed as DB Training, and many online retailers already have it on file.

Step by step

1. Buy your firearm

Buy from any online retailer or dealer, in Florida or out of state. At checkout, choose DB Training as your FFL. Not listed? Finish your order, then send us the order number and the seller's contact info, and we'll send them a copy of our FFL. Dealers: please send a copy of your FFL to info@armorfirearmsllc.com.

2. Fill out our Firearm Transfer Form

Everyone completes the Firearm Transfer Form for every transfer. Then email info@armorfirearmsllc.com with the delivery date and carrier.

3. Wait for our message

Once we confirm your firearm has arrived, we'll send you a link to book pickup (weekdays 6–9 PM, Sat 9 AM–5 PM). All transfers are by appointment only.

4. Pick up at our FFL

Come to 4216 Kingswood Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32303 with a valid photo ID. You'll complete ATF Form 4473 and pass a background check before you leave with your firearm.

Private-party transfers

Buying from a friend or a private seller? We handle transfers from private citizens too, in or out of Florida, for a flat $30. Start with the same transfer form.

Florida's waiting period

Florida has a mandatory waiting period of 3 days, excluding weekends and legal holidays, between the purchase and delivery of a firearm. It doesn't apply to a buyer who holds a concealed weapon license or to a trade-in of another firearm (F.S. 790.0655).

Thinking about a license? Our concealed carry live-fire test ($75) satisfies the Florida concealed weapon license training requirement for Concealed Coalition online course students.

What can slow a transfer down?

  • The seller doesn't have our FFL on file yet.
  • The Transfer Form wasn't filled out, or we didn't get the delivery date and carrier.
  • Your photo ID is missing or expired.
  • The background check takes longer than usual.
