Concealed Carry Class in Tallahassee: How to Get Your Florida License
By the instructors at Armor Firearms & Training, Tallahassee, FL
Safety comes first. A license is a legal document, not a skill. A good concealed carry course should leave you safe and confident with the gun you carry.
If you live in Tallahassee or anywhere in Leon County and you're thinking about carrying a handgun, you probably have three questions: Do I still need a license? What training counts? Where do I go? Here's the process, step by step.
Do you still need a concealed weapon license in Florida?
Since 2023, Florida law has allowed an adult who meets the eligibility criteria for a concealed weapon license to carry a concealed firearm without one (F.S. 790.01). So why do so many people still get a license?
- Travel. F.S. 790.01 is a Florida law. A Florida concealed weapon license (CWL) may be honored in other states. Check the FDACS reciprocity list before any trip.
- No waiting period. Florida's 3-day waiting period (excluding weekends and legal holidays) doesn't apply when a CWL holder buys a firearm (F.S. 790.0655(2)(a)).
- Proof of training. Passing a live-fire evaluation means an instructor has watched you handle your gun safely.
Step 1: Take the online classroom course
Our concealed carry students start with the Concealed Coalition online course. You'll find it through the Concealed Carry button on our homepage. Work through the classroom portion at your own pace, and save your proof of completion. You'll need it on test day.
Step 2: Pass the live-fire test in Tallahassee
The second half happens in person with us. Our CCW Live-Fire Qualification Test is $75. An instructor runs and scores your live-fire evaluation, and you get a certificate of completion when you pass. That satisfies the Florida concealed weapon license training requirement.
Upcoming test dates: Nov 7, Dec 5 and Dec 19, 2026.
On test day:
- Arrive at 8:45 AM.
- Bring a photo ID, your signed waiver (sign it online) and proof that you finished the online course.
- Bring your own gun and ammo if you have them. Need gear? A loaner gun and ammo are $25, and eye and ear protection is $5, plus FL sales tax.
Tests are held at our private range in NW Leon County, FL. Exact range address given after booking.
Need to reschedule? Rebook through Concealed Coalition: use the Concealed Carry button on our homepage, or call Concealed Coalition at (800) 805-2238.
Step 3: Apply for your license
With your certificate in hand, apply through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), Division of Licensing. FDACS's fee schedule lists $55 for a new Florida resident license plus $42 for fingerprint processing ($97). Check the current fees before you apply.
Where to apply in Tallahassee: the Leon County Tax Collector's office at 1276 Metropolitan Blvd., Suite 102 accepts new applications. Tax collectors may charge a convenience fee of up to $22 for a new application (F.S. 790.0625). See FDACS for the full eligibility requirements and the online application.
Prefer one-on-one? The 2-hour private lesson
Our 2-hour private lesson ($145 per person) includes the concealed carry training certificate. Before your session you watch our online class video and take its 7-question test, plus two short training videos. Then you spend about 90 minutes at the range with your instructor.
It's all-inclusive: gun, ammo, targets, and eye and ear protection, so you can try before you buy. Private means private: once you book a slot, no one else can join. Bring up to 10 people.

Take Learn to Shoot first. It's a 2-hour beginner group class for $75 (Sat Nov 7, Nov 28 and Dec 5). It isn't a concealed carry class, but it builds the safe habits that make test day easy.
After your license: keep training
Skills fade without practice. The Armor Practice Club is a monthly 2-hour coached session, $49/mo with no contract, and each session is capped at 10 shooters. The first session is Sat Nov 28.
